Florence isn’t called the “cradle of Italian Renaissance” for no reason. It is an impressive city through architecture and art, which welcomes you with the promise of unforgettable days.

The truth is that a 3-4 day city break in this city can positively charge you whether or not you visit museums and other sights. Even a stroll around the streets of the city can be amazing.

What are the main objectives and attractions you need to see in Florence?

Ponte Vecchio. Florence has six extremely well-known bridges that cross the Arno River. The most impressive, however, is the Ponte Vecchio (the Old Bridge), which was built almost 2000 years ago and by 1218 was the only way to cross the river. Its importance is all the more important since in World War II all the bridges in the city were destroyed, except this one.

Florencian markets. There are several markets through which it is worthwhile to stroll. Among them is Piazza della Signoria which is named after the palace of the same name and Piazza Michelangiolo, from where you can see the whole city in an excellent panorama. The latter was designed as a museum for Michelangelo’s work, but it became a simple promenade. You can also walk through Piazza della Liberta, Piazza della Independenza or Piazza San Lorenzo. Dome of Florence. Also called “Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore”, this is the main church of the city. It was built in 1926 and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Until recently, the dome was the largest in the world. Although it no longer holds the record from this point of view, it still has a number of elements to boast of: it is the largest brick dome ever built and has its own market inside the 3 buildings that compose it.

City Hall. This is one of the most impressive buildings in Tuscany – built in 1299, it served as a palace for magistrates. Even though today it is intended for public administration, it can be visited and has a story interior.

The galleries of the Academy. These galleries are where you will find most of Michelangelo’s sculptures. These include unfinished statues, such as the Prisoners, San Matteo or the statue of David. In addition to Michelangelo, you will be able to discover as many interesting works of art as possible that will make your day more colorful and beautiful.

The Pitti Palace. It is another building worth visiting, because it has a very high historical value. Until 1919, this palace was the residence of the rulers of the city. Here you will be able to discover some extremely interesting museums.

Useful information you need to know about Florence

Transportation. The best option to get here is by plane, to the Pisa airport. From here you will have to travel only 80 km to Florence, which you can do by bus. Once you get to the city, the best travel solution is by foot. Florence also has public transport in case you get tired. A 90-minute ticket costs 1.2 euros. There are other options such as bicycles or electric scooters.

Food. One of the reasons why many people choose vacations in Italy is the food. Whether you want to eat in fine dining restaurants or just enjoy small delights on the street, Florence has something to offer you.
