Canary Islands, Spain – Tenerife

These seven islands were formed as a result of underwater volcanic eruptions 200 kilometers from the coast of Morocco and the West African desert. The Canary Islands, an important Spanish heritage, are very famous attractions throughout Europe. Tenerife is famous for its scenic views and amazing sandy beaches.

The most famous islands in this archipelago are Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Palma, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Each one is known for something special. If Tenerife is famous for the many sights here including a lot of UNESCO World Heritage sites, the Gran Canaria, La Palma and Lanzarote Islands are characterized by Baroque churches, museums and traditional art festivals.

Those who come here are often looking for the famous beaches with volcanic sands, the favorite destination of all DJs, hosting hundreds of festivals during the summer period.

We recommend visiting Tenerife because it is sunny all year long, and it offers both extremely beautiful, unique beaches and a biodiversity that made international organizations decide to include many attractions here on the UNESCO-protected sites list.

A Holiday in Tenerife – Top 7 attractions

Tenerife is a destination that many people wish to visit, and there are a lot of amazing attractions to be discovered here. We recommend spending at least a few days here, so you can enjoy seeing at least a few of those!

1. Tenerife beaches

The beaches of Tenerife are famous for the beauty of the waters and the surrounding landscapes. Also, since the island is volcanic, the sand is not of an ordinary color but rather dark. However, the same volcanic origin made Tenerife have some beaches that we recommend when you arrive here: La Tejita, a large, natural, spectacular lagoon, Las Teresitas, a beach for which palm trees were planted along coast and imported sand from the Sahara, Los Gigantes and Masca, two famous beaches for the beautiful rocks here, and Playa Jardin, an amazing botanical garden.

2. El Teide – Tenerife’s active volcano and the highest peak in Spain

El Teide is the volcanic summit that rises 3718 meters above sea level, the highest peak in Spain. Is an active volcano that was rated added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2007. The last eruption of the volcano occurred in 1909, and there were no records of activity ever since.

At present, El Teide is an important tourist attraction in Tenerife. You can either rent a car or take a bus to the altitude of 2350 meters, and from there you can take the cable car to up to 3555m.

3. Siam Park – the world’s most exciting water park

Artificial beaches, umbrellas, rivers, restaurants and buildings inspired by Thai architecture and lush vegetation make Siam Park the best water park in the world.

Plan for a full day if you want to really feel the adrenaline rush, or if you want to relax just stroll around and spend some great time.

4. Loro Parquet – Tenerife’s Zoo

This zoo stretches over several tens of hectares, with lush vegetation, many tropical trees and hosts a lot of animals. The zoo has more than 350 parrot species (the word “loro” means “parrot)”, monkeys, lions, tigers and penguins.

This island became the most famous all over the world, being extremely popular for the insane parties held here. The amazing night life here is just one of the reasons tens of thousands of young people come to this island.

6. San Cristobal de la Laguna – the UNESCO City

San Cristobal is the island’s former capital and an exceptional city that has been listed on the UNESCO list because of its cultural and architectural heritage. The modern Renaissance churches, along with those built by rich families here in the 17th century, make the city’s architecture a tourist attraction in itself. Get your camera ready and try capturing the beauty of the Iglesia de Nuestra La Conception church, built in 1496 and modified in the 16th and 18th centuries.

If you want to understand more about the history of the island, head to the Museum of History and Anthropology to get an overview of how life on the island evolved.
