The Great Wall of China is one of the seven new wonders of the world as decided in 2007. This place is the main and first attraction in China and tourists come in millions annually from all over the world. When you plan your trip to the Great Wall of China, take into consideration that you will spend more than 6 hours on the road, visiting, taking photos and even shopping.
To reach the Great Wall you first need to take a plane to Beijing. From there, the fence is only 80 km away, an hour and a half drive away. And, of course, all hotels and tourist agencies offer a variety of expeditions and tour groups to the Great Wall of China.
Choose sports clothing when you visit the wall, because it has steep areas with countless stairs. Be sure to wear good sports shoes and sports wear and leave any heavy clothes you have at the hotel.
At the base of the wall there is a fast food area where you can find ice cream, fruits, water and juices. Keep in mind that there are no amazing restaurants and places to eat or drink here.
You can start your journey up te wall. You can climb either by foot or take a cable car. The cost of the cable car ticket itself is 5 Euro, and access to the Great Wall is also 5 Euro, which you’ll need to pay regardless of how you’re climbing.
On the road between the cable car and the entrance there are lots of shops. It is kind of a Chinese “bazaar”, from where you can buy some souvenirs, tea sets, and kimonos of all colors.
