If you are curious about Indian culture and traditions, one of the best places to visit is Jaipur. The pink city, as it is called, is the largest in the Rajasthan region, being its capital.

With a history of nearly 300 years, Jaipur has become one of the most important tourist attractions for Indians and foreigners. One of the reasons why it is so attractive is that all the buildings in the city are pink and this dates from 1883, when it was ordered that the whole city be painted in this color to honor Prince Albert.

Today, the tourist attractions are well highlighted. Tourism is one of the main sources of income for the local population.

What can you see in Jaipur?

Hawa Mahal Palace. It is a building that is beyond imagination. With a perfect combination of Islamic architecture and modern Western architecture, it resembles a honeycomb. It is not a 15 meter high building, so it’s not very tall, but its appearance will never cease to amaze you. The best time to visit it is in the morning when it is bathed in golden light from the sun.

Jal Mahal. It is also called the Water Palace, one of the most important tourist monuments in the city. The name is drawn from being in the center of a lake and the most attractive of the Jaipur horizons.

Amber Mantar Astronomical Observatory. A visit to Jaipur can not be complete unless you pay a visit to this observatory. It is one of the largest in the world and houses the world’s largest solar dial. Its name translates as “Magic Formula”, which is totally accounted for, as you will discover a museum with some of the most interesting astronomical instruments.

Religious Temples. Jaipur is a city filled with temples, like most cities in India. Some of them are extremely beautiful and worth discovering. The most attractive is Moti Doongari, which is located in the city center and was built in the 18th century. At the edge of Jaipur there are many other interesting temples, such as Galwh Balgh, also called the Monkey Temple, or Suriya Mandir. If you get to Suriya Mandir, you will not only find a very beautiful temple, but you will also get an excellent view of the city.

Historic city center. The entire city consists of 9 main buildings, out of which only 7 survived. Walking in the center can be very enjoyable and give you unforgettable memories. The city’s architecture plan, baed on the Shilpa Shasta principles, is also incredibly fascinating.

There are a lot of other things you can do in Jaipur. Near the city there are numerous ancient castles, fortresses or other important historical locations, all based on a culture completely different from ours.
