Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, is a well-desired city for many tourists around the world, because of its unique location, surrounded by water from all sides. The city was first inhabited by the Bani Yas tribe in 1760. Perhaps the discovery of oil took Abu Dhabi to this modern city which we see today, an impressive center of government and business.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a very important landmark in Abu Dhabi, and one of the city’s most famous attractions. The mosque incorporates elements of Mameluke, Ottoman and Fatimid design to create a harmonious, comprehensive and modern mosque, celebrating the Islamic architecture.
Artisans used glass works, mosaic tiles and stunning complex sculptures both inside and outside. It was opened in 2007 after nearly 20 years of construction. This mosque can accommodate 40,000 worshipers and is the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates. Non-Muslims are allowed access to all areas of the mosque (including the extensive library).
Ferrari World
This unique amusement park brings the fun of Formula 1 racing in Abu Dhabi, and is one of the top things to do for both adventure seekers and families. Young children can test the driving skills gained on the GT Junior track, while adrenaline junkies can try the roller coaster racing at speeds of up to 120 km / h on a 52 meter long track (the longest in the world). There is also a range of Ferrari cars with models dating back to 1947, and you can get a tour of the Ferrari factory and even try the Ferrari knowledge game show, for those really passionate about cars.
Qasr al-Hosn
Also known as Old Castle or White Fort, this is the oldest building in Abu Dhabi, and one of the most important historical points. The palace was built in 1793 as the home of the ruling family and the seat of government. The internal fort has been renovated and is now being used as a museum that traces the history and culture of the Abu Dhabi city, with oral histories and a lot of historical images in the exhibition. The courtyard and the magnificent tiles on the main northern gate are also remarkable features of this place.
Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital
The Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital is a veterinary hospital for falcons which require treatment, but there are also guided tours of its facilities for interested visitors. The tours allow you to see these wonderful birds from up close, while the museum at the site explains the history of falconry. If you’d like to, you may also have the opportunity to feed one of them, depending on the activities of veterinarians at the time of your visit.
Yas Waterworld
If the heat bothers you, go directly to the Yas Island and relax in the water park! Yas Waterworld is a huge theme park, with water slides and an inner river in addition to the world’s first hydro-magnetic tornado water rafting ride. Here you can also find many restaurants, cafes and shops. There is also a water play area especially for families with young children.
Abu Dhabi Heritage Village
The Heritage Village in Abu Dhabi is a replica of a typical Bedouin village, that gives visitors an idea of how Emirati life was like before the oil was discovered. Located in a beautiful beach area in the city, this is surely a nice place to visit. There are exhibits featuring various traditional objects and workshops where you can see artisans displaying metal and textile skills.
Liwa Oasis
In the south of Abu Dhabi, the beautiful Liwa Oasis is a great destination for tourists. The Oasis is known as one of the world’s largest sand dunes, and is located on the outskirts of the city. This is a must-see attraction for anyone who wants to ride dune baggies, try sand-riding or go on camel riding trips.
