Bulgaria is located between Romania and Greece and has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the past ten years, especially in the hot summer season. Varna. Varna is one of the main tourist destinations in Bulgaria. It is easy to understand why – it’s a beautiful city with wonderful beaches, excellent restaurants and beautiful green spaces. Varna is often referred to as Bulgaria’s maritime capital, with many seaside resorts offeing excellent services in close proximity to tourist attractions, picturesque beaches, beautiful golden sands and clear waters. Among the most popular resorts are Golden Sands, Albena, St. Constantine and Helena, Balchik and Sunny Beach.

Veliko Tarnovo. Veliko Tarnovo is located in the center of Bulgaria between the 12th and 14th centuries, and was the historic capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire. The rebuilt Tsarevets fortress has no resemblance to the medieval palaces of the Bulgarian landowners who ruled from the top of this hill until they were defeated by the Ottomans in 1393. Nevertheless, Bulgaria’s old charm is felt when passing throug the massive gates of this stunning fortress.

Nessebar. The “Black Sea Pearl” as it is nicknamed, the historic town of Nessebar dates back to antiquity since it was founded as a Thracian settlement under the name of Menebria. Througout time, the Greeks, Romanians, Byzantines, Bulgarians, Crusaders and Ottomans, all contributed to the fortification of the city.

Today, a stroll along the charming cobbled streets of Nessebar will take you through dozens of brick churches dating back to the 5th century, but also among colorful restaurants and beautiful boutiques, great places to sit down when you need some relaxation. Nessebar is such an important site that it has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Rila Monastery. This picturesque Orthodox monastery is known as Jerusalem of Bulgaria, surrounded by wooded mountains and less than two hours from Sofia, and is definitely worth a visit. It is now the most famous monastery in Bulgaria and was built in the 10th century by St. Ivan of Rilski. Over the centuries, the monastery has been rebuilt, burned and rebuilt, and its last reconstruction dates back to 1800. Once entering the monastery courtyard you will be amazed at the perfect harmony of the church, with arcades graceful in bold black and white stripes. From the roof of the monastery you can see the tops of the Rila Mountains, which make for an oasis of perfect serenity around the beautiful monastery.

Sozopol. One of the oldest towns on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria, Sozopol is a former fishing village, today a popular seaside resort. It is 35 kilometers away from Burgas and was founded in the 6th century BC. Hr under the name Apollonia, when it was built as a temple dedicated to Apollo. The city is small enough to be explored on foot, so it’s perfect for a one-day visit.

Other tourist attractions worth visiting in Bulgaria are: the historical center of Belovdiv, the castle of Belogradchik, the Lake Atanasovsko, the picturesque village of Koprivshtitanic and the wineries in Melnik and the Queen Maria Castle in Chalk.
