The sun rises above the mountains and touches the plains in a wonderful symbolic way, falling on the green grass with a magnificent halo. In the early hours of the morning, the fog disappears and the forests and lakes become visible, and everything comes to life.

The animals start to wake up, and the visitors begin to come enjoy the beauty of nature and take as many beautiful photos as possible. This is what every morning is like in The Zhangjiajie National Park, China.

This park is famous for its refined forests, winding paths, limestone caves and unforgettable scenery. It is one of the world’s most beautiful national park in terms of trekking routes and magnificent landscapes.

This is where famous director James Cameron took his inspiration for his famous masterpiece, Avatar, and the mountains here were renamed “The Avatar Hallelujah” in the movie’s honor. The park has numerous attractions which attract tourists from all over the world.

Best times to visit Zhangjiajie National Park

The park is open all year round and you can visit it any time. However, we suggest you bring warm clothes if you decide to come here in the winter, when the temperatures can get very low.

However, if you’re up for a challenge and plan a trip here in the cold season, you won’t be disappointed. The beautiful mountains covered with thick snow and the frozen lakes will undoubtedly make you forget about feeling cold.

In June and July there sometimes is abundant rain and the fog becomes a key element in the landscape. Generally speaking, throughout summer the weather is fairly enjoyable with nice temperatures. In October the park is very crowded because of the national holiday in China so we recommend that you book your place either before or after.

Accommodation

An idea would be to stay in Wulingyuan, not Zhangjiajie. This city is just 5 minutes away from the park, but bear in mind that if your accommodation is in the city center, you will be about 50 minutes away. Another inconvenience could be that the only means of transportation will likely be a rental car, which might cost you a bit more than you’re used to.

There are also hotels in the park, close the mountains. Choosing to stay in one of them is a good idea if you want to visit the whole park with all of its landmarks, and not have to return every day. In order to fully enjoy what this national park has to offer, we recommend you to stay between 2 and 4 days.
