When we think of France, we usually think of many things, ranging from romance to amazing cuisine, but this country also offers some of the most visited landmarks that you surely don’t want to miss on!

Paris, the heart and capital of France, is filled with globally renowned museums and architecture. Outside the capital, the country has many small towns, castles, villages and mountains which will teleport you right into a fairytale, and make you want to visit France again, and again!

From famous attraction such as the Eiffel Tower to the stunning Abbey of Fontenay, all these places in France deserve a visit any time you are visiting this beautiful European country.

Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe is one of the most important attractions in Paris, a true symbol for the French people. The monument was built in 1836 and represents a way to honor the French soldiers who died in the Napoleonic Wars and the French Revolution.

The Arc de Triomphe used to be the largest arc in the entire world for more than 100 years. You can see the Arc at the Place Charles de Gaulle, or at end of the famous Champs-Élysées. At the base of the Arc is the Unknown Soldier’s Tomb. This beautiful historical attraction is located in the 8th district of the city.

Palace of Versailles

Only 30 minutes from the French capital is the picturesque Versailles Palace. In 1623, Versailles was just a small town, and the palace itself was just a small lodge made of stone. Over time, the palace was expanded and equipped to be extremely luxurious. This palace used to be the true center of French politics under King Louis XIV. Paris only became the politics center again after the 1789 French Revolution.

Today, you can walk around the Versailles Palace and enjoy its luxurious rooms, stunning halls and the beautiful gardens surrounding the building.

Abbey of Fontenay

Taking a trip to France is, without a doubt, an opportunity to visit countless religious places — but only a few are as important as the Fontaine monastery. It is located in the small town of Marmagne, and was built in 1118, in the Romanesque architecture style.

Most of the original buildings in the monastery are intact, which is amazing, taking in consideration the fact that it was built almost 1000 years ago! You can take a walk through the dining hall and even the bedrooms used by many important religious figures in the past centuries.

Notre Dame de Paris

If you love visiting religious attractions, make sure you don’t miss seeing Notre Dame de Paris. The Notre Dame is located in the fourth arrondissement of the French capital, featuring an early Gothic design that was completed in the 14th century. It is considered by many the most famous church in the world, and it was featured in Victor’s Hugo novel, “Hunchback of Notre Dame”. Take a tour of the church and be amazed by the intriguing designs, as well as the wide range of artwork it contains.

Mont Blanc

Mont Blanc translates to “White Mountain”, and is the highest peak in the Alps and in all of Europe. It is situated right at the border between France and Italy, and is truly a fairytale place for those who love mountains, outdoors and picturesque views.

You can take a cable car right to the summit of Mont Blanc, allowing you to see the Alpins in their natural beauty, as well as get to skiing attractions such as Chamonix in France and Courmayeur in Italy.

Eiffel tower

Perhaps the most important landmark associated with France is the iron-made Eiffel Tower, built in 1889. The Eiffel Tower, named after Gustav Eiffel, is visited by more than 250 million visitors a year. While waiting may take a long time, we highly recommend visiting the Eiffel Tower as well as its surroundings, and get to explore many of the attractions around it. It is best to visit the tower at night, when its beautiful lights are on. Afterwards, go for a night walk around the champs du Mars — the famous gardens located below the tower.
