Barcelona is definitely one of the most visited cities in Europe. Anyone visiting the capital of Catalonia for the first time will instantly fall in love with this city.

Read this guide to learn some important things before you go to Barcelona. Knowing what to expect and what to avoid, will save you time, money and energy. In no specific order order, here are the things you should not do when visiting Barcelona:

Do not eat at La Rambla

La Rambla is the most popular tourist street in this city, so everyone wants to stroll around here. With this heavy traffic, the restaurants and bars of La Rambla have huge prices compared to other areas of the city. Here prices can get as high as 40 or 50 euros for just a small meal.

Do not expect to communicate easily with locals

In the city center where there are many tourist areas, you will find a good number of English speakers. But do not expect to find many locals who know English. Statistically, 8 out of every 10 local citizens you meet on the street will speak Catalan and / or Spanish only. District taxi drivers or bus drivers do not know English well.

This is rather surprisig for such a famous tourist destination. So, if you do not want to face such language barriers, you should consider learning a few words in Catalan or Spanish before traveling to Barcelona.

Do not go to major tourist attractions without buying a ticket in advance

Check tickets availability and make sure you book them in advance so you can avoid long waiting lines. The tourist attractions for which it is very important to buy tickets in advance are Sagrada Familia, Güell Park and Palau from Música Catalana.

It is important to be alert and always watch your belongings. To avoid such unpleasant situations, we recommend that you keep your wallet in your front pocket and always keep an eye on the valuables you wear (or better, leave them in the hotel room).

Do not expect to eat in the restaurant before lunch

Barcelona restaurants do not open before noon, and some choose to open only after 13:00. So do not expect to enjoy a delicious breakfast or a brunch in this city. It is best to choose a hotel that includes the first meal of the day, otherwise you will have to buy sandwiches or croissants from the supermarket.
