If you thought one could only find paradise islands in the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean, well, you’re wrong! Europe has a range of incredibly diverse islands that offer travelers unique experiences, exciting cultures and some of the most stunning views around the world. From arid islands to tropical or volcanic islands, Europe has everything!

Tenerife. Although the Canary Islands is a territory belonging to Spain, it is far from the European continent, off the coast of the African continent about 100 kilometers from the borders of Morocco and Western Sahara. Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and offers travelers a wide range of activities, from water sports to hiking through Teide National Park, great photography opportunities and spectacular cultural events.

The highest mountain in Spain, Mount Teide, is in Tenerife. From the top of this UNESCO World Heritage site, visitors have a magnificent view of the volcanoes on the island. In addition, the entire area is rich in wildlife and natural beauty. Not surprisingly, over 12 million tourists come here annually to enjoy nature in this wonderful place.

Madeira. If you love wine, you will certainly love Madeira. The wine industry has long been considered a tradition on the Portuguese island. According to Wikipedia, Madeira is known for its unique winemaking process, which involves heating the wine to temperatures of 60 degrees Celsius for a long time and exposing it to certain oxidation levels. Thanks to this unique process, Madeira’s wine is very robust and lasts for a long time, even after the container in which it is stored is opened.

The island is located in the Atlantic Ocean, about halfway between America and Europe, just around 520 kilometers from the coast of Africa and 1,000 kilometers from the west coast of Europe. Temperatures in the island throughout the year range from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius, making Madeira an ideal holiday destination both in summer and winter.

Santorini. Santorini is the most sought-after place in Europe for a romantic escape, especially for a perfect honeymoon. In few other places in the world you can enjoy such extremely clear waters while you are on the edge of an active volcano in the middle of the sea! Magic and romantic, Santorini, outlined by white houses with blue roofs on cliffs carved by volcanic eruptions, is certainly one of the most charming islands in Europe and even around the world!

Sardinia. From stunning architecture to fresh and tasty cuisine, exciting culture and wonderful beaches, Sardinia has everything! Visiting this place will give you the impression that you are walking in a beautiful city from the past! The Bronze Age Stone Towers (Nuraghe), Roman Baths of Fordongianus and the Well of Saint Christina are just some of the marvels you will find here.

After sightseeing, we recommend a walk on one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the island, Luna Beach.

Iceland. Perhaps this is not the first place that comes to mind when you think of European islands. However, Iceland never disappoints tourists who are looking for a new and cooler alternative to the traditional travel destinations.

The island’s landscape is plain and seems to be out of a fairytale, and it features birch forests, and black sand deserts. In addition, the thermal springs here allow outdoor swimming throughout the year!

Malta. Millions of history and archeology enthusiasts love to visit Malta every year. The island may not have the most idyllic beaches in Europe, but it hosts a wealth of historic treasures including the Neolithic temples built 1000 years before the pyramids of Egypt. You should also consider to visit the island of St. Paul, the site where Paul the Apostle was shipwrecked.
